WA man stabbed girlfriend before killing nurse in head-on-collision, fleeing scene in Tasmania
A WA man is accused of stabbing his partner at a Tasmanian home before getting into his vehicle and onto a busy highway, where he was involved in a violent head-on collision with another car.
The 42-year-old man is alleged to have stabbed a woman in her 40s – his partner of six months – multiple times at a house in Exeter before colliding with another vehicle, killing 39-year-old nurse Elaine Gee.
Ms Gee was not involved in the stabbing and was returning home from work at the local hospital when the collision occurred.
The WA officer died at the scene on the West Tamar Highway at Legana, while Ms Gee was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition.
Tasmania Police released a statement on Sunday evening confirming Ms Gee died in hospital.
Police also confirmed the stabbing victim was taken to Launceston General Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Both the man and woman are believed to have visited Tasmania from Perth.
The online fundraiser raised more than $80,000 to support the family of Ms. Gee, who died in the crash.
Ms Gee is described as a loving wife, mother of two boys aged 6 and 10, and had worked at the hospital for 20 years.
According to the fundraiser, a man “intentionally rammed directly into Ms. Gee’s vehicle” as she was driving home from work.
Her husband, Rodney Gee, mourned the loss of his “best friend” and “beautiful wife” in a social media post.
“So please, it’s going to take all of us… to help me turn the good boys we raised together into the great men he knows he can be.
“I may be their father, but no one can replace their mother.”
