Warning as e-bike and e-scooter fires set to hit record high

According to new analyzes, London is on the road for a record year of e-bike and e-SCOOTER fires.

The London Fire Department (LFB) recorded 165 events with these vehicles until September 28, 2025.

Approximately 18 average per month, if the current trend continues for the first time in a single year, it is expected to exceed 200 fires.

Aber Siem, a 30-year-old, died in the hospital after being rescued by firefighters-on June 11, when the residential-searches were probably caused by the failure of a charging e-bike battery, Lordship Lane broke out at his home in Wood Green.

In all four cases, the victim did not have or did not use e-bikes.

LFB Prevention and Protection Commissioner Deputy Pamela Oparaocha said: uz We continue to see the destructive results of e-bike and e-SCOOTER fires in London.

“Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by fires in recent years.

“Fires containing e-bikes and e-SCooters are widespread in London.

“Since the beginning of 2023, we have joined a fire every day, and some of these fires destroyed the houses and claimed the lives.”

Fires containing lithium batteries used for e-bikes and e-SCOOTERS can spread rapidly and produce a toxic steam.

Products such as LFB, batteries purchased from online markets, charger and e-bike conversion kits are higher because they are not exposed to the same level of arrangement as high street shops.

LFB said that concert economy companies should do more to raise awareness about fire risks from e-bikers.

Uber EATS to the delivery companies only wrote to ask them to share their security advice with the riders this week.

In October last year, the Ministry of Business and Trade launched a campaign that called on people to buy only secure electricity products from reputable sellers.

First, Charity Electricity Security General Manager Lesley Rudd said: uz We encourage the government to be brave and brave when we think about which arrangements to cope with these fires, and continue to defend the third-party certification for e-bike batteries to ensure that they are safe before being sold in the UK market.

“Solid new safety standards for transformation kits that transform bikes into e-bikes should also be introduced urgently to tough new laws to squeeze online market giants, which often host the sale of non-standard goods.”
