WA’s Lee makes hot start to US PGA Tour event
“I only changed my grip a week and a half ago, so it’s good that you can see the results right away.
“That was the reason for my anxiety. I didn’t know how things would go on the green and the result was good.”
Day made a 37-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th island green and then birdied the final hole of the day to sit near the top of the crowded leaderboard.
“The irons felt great, the short game felt good and I hit a really nice swing,” Day said.
“I need to work on the driver a bit, some drivers were a little off but overall I feel pretty solid.”
Scheffler holds a prominent place in the group as he has kicked off a year in which he could join Tiger Woods by winning five consecutive US PGA Player of the Year awards.
“You have to approach this mentally as if you had to make birdie,” Scheffler said.
“(But) if you start pushing things, you can still get into trouble.
“So, it’s still golf, believe it or not, even though the scores are low, it’s still pretty tough.”
