Waste catches fire at BPCL’s Tondiarpet facility

Empty cartons and old papers stored in a warehouse at a lubricant packaging plant of the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) in Tondiarpet caught fire on Monday afternoon. The fire was extinguished by the Authority’s own team and four tenders of the Fire Brigade.

Sources in BPCL said that the fire was not near the ATF depot or lubricants factory and there was no loss of property or life. Sources in the Fire and Rescue Services Department said they received the call at 14.41 pm and the fire was completely extinguished by 18.00 pm. Vadivelu, a resident of the area, said that the smoke from the fire was very high and could be seen from the adjacent streets.
