Watch live: Starmer gives major make-or-break speech against leadership threat

Watch Sir Keir Starmer’s make-or-break speech live in the House of Commons on Monday (May 11) as he fights to salvage his political future following dismal local election results.
The Prime Minister’s statement came after dozens of Labor MPs publicly called on him to resign after the party lost almost 1,500 seats.
Reacting to Friday’s results, Sir Keir insisted he would not resign but acknowledged the losses were “tough” for Labor.
Former deputy prime minister Angela Rayner issued a dramatic ultimatum to the Prime Minister, warning him: “What we are doing is not working and needs to change. This may be our last chance.”
Both Ms Rayner and health minister Wes Streeting are seen as potential leadership candidates, but neither has yet made a move against Sir Keir.
In his speech, Sir Keir is expected to promise sweeping changes to address the “major challenges” facing Britain in his latest bid to save his job.
Monday could be very important for the Prime Minister; Former Foreign Secretary Catherine West said she would challenge Sir Keir for the Labor leadership if she was still “dissatisfied” after his speech.
