Water bills set to rise again: Check how much more you’ll be paying

The full list of increases in average water bills for households in England and Wales in 2026/27 has been published by Water UK.
Household water bills across England and Wales will rise by an average of 5.4 per cent from April, the water authority has confirmed.
Average household water bills are predicted to rise by £33 per year; This is an increase of two percentage points above inflation and has reignited public anger over persistent sewage pollution.
Customers of United Utilities serving the North West are seeing the biggest increase in cash terms, with an average of £57. This is followed by Southern Water (up £55), Hafren Dyfrdwy (up £54) and Severn Trent Water (up £52).
Water UK says the increase will fund a £20bn investment between 2026/27 aimed at securing supply and stopping discharges into rivers and seas.
But critics argue that after decades of underinvestment, firms are passing on upgrade costs, fueling public anger.
Water UK said cash from water bills could only be used to fund infrastructure that was independently determined to be “new, necessary and value for money”.
It was stated that the money-back guarantee means that customer invoices will be automatically refunded by the issuer if improvements are not made.
