Waterborne freight transport resumes in Assam after 10 years

India’s national Waterway 57, Kopili River, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, started its operations with the first cargo trial work and pointed to the restart of water -based cargo transportation after ASSAM for more than a decade.
Equipped with its self -loading capacity, the cargo ship MV VV entrance carried 300 metric tons of cement from a factory in Central Assam for a 300 km route on the Brahmaputra River. The ship to Hatsingimari in the Southern Salmara-Mankachar region of West Assam was marked from Chandrapur about 30 kilometers east of Guwahati.

“The promotion of internal water transport will not only fold our paths, but also to bring scale economies to secure the development and opportunities for the river communities in Assam,” he said.
The hearing of 23 trucks on Saturday took its place.
