Venezuela’s Interim President Delcy Rodríguez vehemently denied on Thursday (July 2) that his government responded too slowly to the devastation caused by two earthquakes that devastated the country’s northern coast and killed more than 2,000 people, following days of widespread criticism of official response efforts. Rodriguez said his government issued an emergency decree to activate civil protection and emergency protocols a few hours after last Wednesday’s 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude tremors hit less than a minute apart.
