A woman searching for her long-lost mother was left in shock after discovering she had unknowingly married her own brother.
Brazilian couple Adriana and Leandro, with their daughter for almost 19 years, have spent their lives searching for their mother, Maria, who abandoned them when they were babies.
They had no idea that the women they were looking for might actually be one and the same person. Adriana, who works selling cosmetics, had not seen her mother, whom she had not seen since she was one year old, because her father raised her alone.
Leandro, who worked as a truck driver and was raised by his stepmother, realized that his mother also abandoned him in his hometown of Sao Paulo when he was eight years old.
While Leandro remained in the city, Adriana left her hometown to start working as a maid, 15 years before she would marry and have three children.

The couple first crossed paths two decades ago after Adriana’s marriage broke down when she returned to Sao Paulo. They quickly fell in love and began living together.
Determined to track down her mother, Adriana enlisted the help of a local radio station in 2014.
However, on Radio Globo’s ‘Now is the Time’ program, which specializes in reuniting lost relatives, the mother revealed that she also had a son named Leandro, who was unaware of his existence.

Heartbroken Adriana, who discovered her husband was also her brother, said: “I don’t believe he told me this. Leandro is my husband.”
She continued: “Now I’m afraid to go home and find out that Leandro doesn’t want me anymore. I love him so much.”
The couple had experienced Genetic Sexual Attraction (GSA), described by a GSA support forum as a phenomenon that occurs between “two adults who are separated during critical years of development and bonding and reunited as adults.”
Adriana and Leandro, who reportedly never officially married, told the radio station that they planned to stay together despite the shocking revelation of their biological connection.

Adriana said: “Only death will separate us. All this happened because God wanted it to happen.
“Of course, it would have been different if we had known these before, but we didn’t know and we fell in love with each other. We thought it was funny that our mothers had the same name, but we thought it was a coincidence since it was a common name.
“We were really touched at first, but we had a family meeting and told everyone that no matter what anyone thinks, we will remain husband and wife. We have so many plans together. Nothing will keep us apart. Nothing.”
The couple stated that they had no ill feelings towards their mother who abandoned them, that they had contacted their mother several times and that they planned to hold a meeting in the coming months.
