We run UK’s ‘best pie and mash shop’ – customers come from Australia | UK | News

The pie, which is usually called original street dishes, is a Cockney classic and a fiber of British cuisine – but the number of shops is decreasing. However, M. Manze, which has been constantly revealed to the lists of the best cake and puree shops in the country, changes with times and continues to develop despite the latest difficulties.
The company, such as Tower Bridge, Peckham and Sutton, has been trading in the capital for 123 years. It was founded in 1878 by Michele Manze, who came to England from Southern Italy with his family at the age of three. They opened a shop selling ice cream, but they soon realized that they would have to branch to survive in Victorian London.
The first shop, which was a traditional working class for quay workers, was in Bermondsey, Tower Bridge Road, Bermondsey, opened in 1902. The family expanded and 14 shops were opened at some point, but most of them burned during the Second World War. The shop is now managed by Emma Harrington, Michele’s grandson Emma Harrington, with her husband’s husband Tom, as well as her father Tom.
Emma believes how authentic the shop is the reason why people love M.Manze. Daily Express told Daily Express: iz As we still have a step back, we still have the interior that was quite unique 123 years ago, and at the same time it is still a beautiful family run for such a long time. ”
He said that it was difficult to estimate the amount of customers they will receive in one day: “Sometimes when we open up during the hurry and open it similarly, we remove the door until 10.30.”
Emma has a Bodrum cuisine that allows them to cook pie for a request for any day: Emma is rare to end the pie. ”
Although only one main course sells traditional chopped beefs with puree and liquor, they traveled from Australia to the end to taste the subtleties after seeing the shop on Youtube. Emma says that the usual order is either double cake and single mash or double cake, double mash. They also sell boiled and gel snakes and puddings.
Another unique thing about M.Manze is that they are cooled as they change with their work times and offer delivery overnight. Emma said: “We noticed that many loyal natives were moved from London, but we still asked them to correct pies and mashed.”
They started this service about 18 years ago, and now there are customers who regularly order from them all over England.
As a small business, they have been affected by Rachel Reeves’ national insurance and national minimum wage increase, but EMMA says they are trying to swallow most of the additional costs themselves. He said: “I think the original fast food, we can’t continue to increase our prices because we’re not.”
Not only due to tax increases, but also due to the price of beef and packaging, which has risen in the last few years, they had to increase the prices by 10%.
London, once for cake and mash, now has less than 40 shops in 2025.
Another said: “Every week, when we crush it every week, it brought too many memories. A great tradition. I will be a regular customer, now I know that I can surrender very easily.”
Customers go not only to food, but also to nostalgia and community surrounding the shop.
