Greenland Official Chokes Up After Trump Meeting Over US Acquisition Talk: ‘I Am Overwhelmed’

Greenlandic Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt broke down in tears Wednesday while discussing her meeting with President Donald Trump about threats to buy Greenland.
“Even though we don’t have many people, we work very hard in our department,” Motzfeldt said. Conflict Reportduring an interview with Greenland’s Kalaallit Nunaata Radio on Wednesday.
His reaction came after he and Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen met with Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House. The group came together to find a solution to Trump’s efforts against Greenland, an autonomous region of the Kingdom of Denmark.

“Normally I wouldn’t want to say these words, but I will say this: We are very strong,” Motzfeldt said. “We’re doing our best. But lately, naturally… Oh, I’m getting so emotional. I’m overwhelmed.”
“The last days have been difficult. Our preparations and increasing pressure have been intense. But I want to say this, we are strong as a government. Our job is to ensure that the Greenlandic people in our country feel safe and live safely. We are using all our strength to achieve this while continuing our work.”
Over the past year, Trump has not given up on his desire to take over Greenland. In an interview with the press, PolicyRasmussen said he and his team barricaded themselves in the area with Trump.
“We have failed to change America’s position,” Rasmussen said Wednesday. “It is clear that the President has a desire to conquer Greenland. We have made it very, very clear that this is not in the Kingdom’s interest.”
