Weather bureau reverts to old rain radar after backlash
Criticism of the site began earlier this week after a severe storm caught many off guard in south-east Queensland on Sunday, leaving more than 100,000 homes without power.
Queensland Premier David Crisafulli told state parliament the website was “flawed” and failed in its duty to prepare residents.
“The changes to the federally run Bureau of Meteorology website are not good enough,” he said in a statement on Tuesday morning.
“The changes made to the site make no sense. The website is flawed. Easy access to individual radars has been removed.
“The color scheme we are used to has changed and Canberra stereotypes will not serve Queenslanders.”
Changes made on October 22 included a new color scheme with orange, indicating the heaviest storm activity, instead of the previous black.
More to come.
