Weather tracker: Furnace Creek sizzles as snow sweeps Siberia in a week of extremes | Environment

Extreme weather conditions in various parts of the world this week have resulted in record-breaking temperatures in Honduras, North America and Indonesia.

Honduras broke its all-time May maximum temperature record earlier this month; but it broke again on May 13 in Choluteca, known as the oven of Central America. Temperatures climbed to 42.2C (107.9F), surpassing the previous record of 42.1C. More records are expected to fall as the intense heat is predicted to continue in the coming weeks.

Although Indonesia is in a cool season, temperatures in the archipelago have shattered records recently. The heatwave also affected northern China and Mongolia, where 10 weather stations matched or exceeded May records. Temperatures are expected to continue in the mid to high 30s through the weekend.
