Sen. John Fetterman accuses President Donald Trump of ‘dangerous rhetoric’

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania accused President Donald Trump of “dangerous rhetoric” after the commander in chief criticized Democratic lawmakers who appeared in a video urging members of the military and intelligence community to reject illegal orders.

“ABOMINATIVE BEHAVIOR is punishable by DEATH!” Trump declared this in a Truth Social post on Thursday. In another post published early Thursday, Trump said, “This is truly bad and dangerous to our Country. Their words cannot be allowed to stand. BETTER BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! SHUT THEM DOWN?”

Fetterman, who was not one of the six lawmakers in the controversial video, responded by condemning the president’s rhetoric.

Speaking about the video during an interview on Friday’s “Brian Kilmeade Show,” Trump said he “didn’t know about modern days, but in the old days,” such comments “could have been punishable by death.”

Trump said he “didn’t threaten” the lawmakers but believed they were “in serious trouble.” He said they were “essentially” telling the military not to follow the president’s orders, and noted that in his view, the lawmakers were violating the law.

The six Democratic lawmakers featured in the video that sparked Trump’s ire were: Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Rep. Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania, Rep. Maggie Goodlander of New Hampshire, Rep. Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado.
