West Asia War: PM Modi, French President Macron hold telephonic talks; stress urgent need to restore Hormuz safety

In his statement following the call, the Prime Minister said that global leaders expressed their concerns about regional tensions and agreed on the importance of restoring security and freedom of navigation on the main shipping route, which provides a significant part of the global energy supply.

“I received a call from my dear friend President Emmanuel Macron. We discussed the situation in West Asia and agreed on the urgent need to restore security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. We will continue our close cooperation to advance peace and stability in the region and beyond,” PM Modi said in a post on channel X. he said.
The meeting with Macron came shortly after Prime Minister Modi held a phone call with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, marking his second interaction since the outbreak of the ongoing West Asian conflict.

During the meeting, both leaders emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and safe despite rising tensions. According to reports, the two leaders also reviewed the progress in bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership across sectors.
The meeting, which lasted around 40 minutes, also touched on the wider consequences of the conflict, including disruptions to global energy supplies.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil trade passes, has emerged as the focal point of the ongoing crisis. Rising tensions in the region have led to fluctuations in crude oil prices and concerns about supply chain disruptions globally.
While India has constantly called for reducing tensions and establishing peace as soon as possible, it has emphasized that uninterrupted access to important sea lanes such as the Strait of Hormuz is critical for global economic stability.
