West Bengal Portfolio Allocations For New Ministers Expected On June 5

Kolkata: The much-awaited portfolio allocations of 35 newly inducted ministers of the first BJP government in West Bengal will take place on June 5. State municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul on Wednesday cleared up speculation following chief minister Suvendu Adhikari’s whirlwind tour of New Delhi on Tuesday night.

Portfolio allocations for Mr Adhikari’s expanded cabinet were expected to be made on Wednesday. So far, only a dozen portfolios have been distributed among five cabinet ministers, while the rest are with the CM. Meanwhile, the state government has implemented the monthly Annapurna Bhandar benefit of ₹ 3,000 promised by the BJP in its Assembly Election manifesto among the 28 lakh women beneficiaries in the state.

While the list will be updated every seven days, a total of around two crore women are expected to be covered by the payment scheme through direct bank transfer. The state government also approved the third round of land transfer to the Border Security Force for fencing the India-Bangladesh border. Ms. Paul informed that around 46 acres of land will be provided to BSF in this phase.

The state government has also decided to officially celebrate June 20 as Paschimbanga Diwas or West Bengal Day and Dr. Approved plans to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee. “On the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on July 5, a year-long state-wide celebration will be held. To mark the occasion, the foundation stone of the 125-foot huge statue of Dr. Mookerjee will also be laid on the same day,” Ms. Paul said.
