Wests Tigers star signs contract extension until 2030
Sunia Turuva becomes the fourth star to sign for Wests Tigers by the end of 2030 since Jarome Luai announced he would join PNG Chiefs.
Turuva signed a three-year extension on Tuesday; This comes hot on the heels of fullback Jahream Bula extending his contract with the Tigers last week and nearly two weeks after Terrell and Taylan May signed on the dotted line.
There were fears that Luai’s friends and team-mates, including Turuva, would follow him to Port Moresby to get tax-free dollars ahead of Chiefs’ entry into the competition in 2028. Turuva was initially without a contract until the end of 2027.
“However [the Chiefs] “It wasn’t something that interested me,” Turuva said. “I love tigers. I’ve enjoyed the ups and downs over the last 18 months and I want to help this club get better. “When my agent told me he wanted to re-sign, I agreed.”
Turuva, a two-time premiership winner at Penrith, said he loved his time playing under coach Benji Marshall and appreciated the opportunity to continue running each week alongside his cousin, co-captain Api Koroisau, who first persuaded him to join the Tigers.
The energetic winger, known as ‘Tito’, said: “It has been very special to be part of Benji’s vision here at the club and to play my part in the structure we have built.
“The connection and culture we’ve created in this group has been a huge part of our growth. I love playing with my brothers and can’t wait for what’s to come.”
“I am grateful to Benji and the club for the faith they have shown in me, and to my family for the support they have given me outside of football. I want to continue to give them back on the pitch every week.”
Marshall said of Turuva’s signing: “Tito adds so much to our team. He’s a huge character who brings so much energy to everything we do. He has a great work ethic and is a great setter of our standards.”
