News from Delhi: Eight people were killed and 24 others were injured after a high-intensity explosion ripped through a car near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday evening. 3-4 vehicles near the car also caught fire and were damaged. The deaths were confirmed by Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP), where the injured were admitted following the blast. Following the explosion, Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai were on high alert. The nature of the explosion is not yet known.

  1. Seven fire trucks rushed to the scene after receiving a report about the explosion near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station at around 19:00 in the evening.
  2. The car in which the explosion occurred was parked near Gate 1 of Lal Qila metro station.
  3. Ambulances and security forces arrived at the area where the explosion occurred. Images taken from the scene show ambulances lined up and police personnel stationed near the scene.
  4. An eyewitness who described the moments after the explosion near the Red Fort said that he saw body parts on the road. “We were completely shocked when we saw someone’s hand on the road. I cannot express it in words,” a local person told news agency ANI.
  5. 15 people were admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital, eight of whom died later.
  6. The images showed a minibus with its doors blown off, a completely smashed car, another car with a shattered windshield, and an injured man on the ground.

Police said a high alert has been issued in Maharashtra and security has been stepped up at vital facilities following an explosion in a parked car near New Delhi’s Red Fort metro station on Monday evening.
