“We are very pleased to nominate Minister Raimondo as a member of our Board of Directors.” Costco President Tony James said in a statement.

“His extensive experience at the highest level in global trade, politics and international security will add a significant dimension to our existing expertise,” James said. “We look forward to their contributions.”

Raimondo was previously Rhode Island’s treasurer. Before that, he worked in venture capital.

The Supreme Court last month heard arguments from the Trump administration as it sought to reverse lower court rulings that sweeping tariffs imposed by the president this year under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act were illegal.

Costco’s lawsuit asks US Court of International Trade To order that the money paid so far for these tariffs be refunded now, without waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision on their final legality.

Without such an order, the retailer said, there’s a risk it might not get that money back even if the Supreme Court agrees that Trump doesn’t have the authority to impose tariffs without congressional approval.

On Wednesday, the International Trade Court a move to unite Costco’s lawsuit related to similar lawsuits filed in the same court by 19 other companies.
