London police on Monday arrested Peter Mandelson, the former British ambassador to the United States who is under investigation for his relationship with notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Lord Mandelson, 72, was arrested on suspicion of abuse of power, London’s Metropolitan Police said. Police did not identify him by name, as is customary in Britain, but photographs of him being led away from his home by police were released on Monday.
“He was arrested at an address in Camden… and taken to London police station for questioning,” the Metropolitan Police said.
“This follows search warrants at two addresses in the Wiltshire and Camden areas.”
Mandelson has previously denied any wrongdoing in his dealings with Epstein.
Mandelson’s arrest led British police to arrest the former prince and King George III. It came four days after Charles arrested his brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on suspicion of abuse of public office.
Mountbatten-Windsor was released later Thursday. While the nature of the investigation against him was not disclosed, Thames Valley Police said that they were evaluating reports that he sent it to Epstein.
