What is the Sir Creek dispute between India and Pakistan?
Sir Creek is a 96 km long tide between Gujarat’s Kutch and Pakistan Rann. The name is given after an English representative, the Golden Horn also enters the Arab Sea. On the way, Pakistan separates Pakistan on one side and Sindh from Gujarat’s Kutch and India on the other.
The region is extremely resourceful because it is one of the largest fishing regions of India and has unused oil and gas resources. According to the authorities, it is extremely difficult to wander in the area because there are extremely hot days of summer and seeing extremely cold nights in summer.
While neighboring countries interpret the border in different ways, the region is a controversial land between India and Pakistan. The dispute about the maritime region is based on the 1914 Bomban government decision, where a border line should be made between Sindh and Kutch sections.
According to paragraph 9 of the agreement, the border lies in the east of the creek, and argues that the creek is in Sindh, which is completely part of Pakistan. Since Sindh and Kutch, two areas, were part of Pakistan and India after the division in 1947, the disagreement became among the nations. The dispute is now coming according to the International Maritime Law, known as the Thalweg principle.
According to the current situation, Pakistan claims that Sir Creek’s principle of Thalweg cannot be applied because it is unreliable. However, India insists that the region can be visited during the high tide, which makes the settlement suitable under international norms.
What did Rajnath say?
When Singh warned Pakistan, he spoke to the military officials in Bhuj in Gujarat in Dussehra, and said he had to remember the lessons of the 1965 Indo-Pak War. “During the Sindoor operation, Pakistan made an unsuccessful attempt to penetrate India’s defense system from Leh to Sir Creek. Indian forces completely exposed the Pakistani air defense system and sent a message to the world that the Indian forces could cause heavy losses to Pakistan, no matter where they wanted.”
