Sugar factory accident: KKS members demand compensation to kin of deceased workers; stage protest

Kittur Karnataka Sene members protested against the management of Inamdar Sugar Factory in Markumbi village of Belagavi district and demanded immediate compensation for eight workers who lost their lives in a work accident recently.

Six workers and two civil servants died while trying to repair the concentrated sugar syrup boiler at the factory. They said it was clear that the factory management did not take appropriate safety measures.

They demanded compensation of at least Rs 1 crore per person to be paid to the workers. They demanded that Inamdar sugars and other factories in the region take all necessary safety measures in the production area and facilities. They wanted management to train their employees on safety protocol before assigning them to work.

Protesters claimed that even so many days after the accident, none of the principals came to meet the families of the dead. Factory officials spoke to the protesters and assured them that their demands would be conveyed to management.

Leaders including Shivanand Kulkar, Sannagouda Sanganagoudar, Raju Bolannavar, Deepak Satoji, Shivanand Kurabet, Mallikarjun Baji, Abhishek Kalal, Somu Thotagi, Pakru Kuslapur and others were present.
