Kemi Badenoch has seen a much-needed jump in ratings following her bold promise on stamp duty at the Tory conference.
The Conservative leader caused a stir at last week’s meeting in Manchester, promising to use the proceeds from cutting spending to scrap the tax.
The move has increased pressure on Rachel Reeves, who is planning bigger increases in the tax burden in next month’s budget.
Opinium research found an eight-point improvement in Ms Badenoch’s personal approval following her speech. Even though he was still at minus 14, it was his best score of the year.
A third of Brits thought he gave a good address, while 18 per cent said the opposite.

By contrast, a third thought Keir Starmer’s conference speech last week was poor and only 23 per cent were impressed.
Perceptions of the Conservative Party have improved over the past week across a range of measures, including ‘knowing what they stand for’ and representing the views of the public.
However, the party’s ratings are quite low.
Reform had a 10-point advantage over Labor in terms of voting intention, at 32 per cent.
Conservatives two points ahead The Liberal Democrats gave 11 percent support and the Greens 10 percent.
