Even New York Times exposes Graham Platner allegations ahead of Maine primary

How much are Democrats willing to take to maintain their support for Maine U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner?

So far they’ve accepted that he has a Nazi tattoo. They acknowledged that in 2013 he posted on online forums saying rape victims should be held accountable, and in 2020 he called rural Americans “stupid” and “racist.” As late as 2019, the U.S. Army was publishing Pfc. Ted Daniels, who was shot in Afghanistan, did not deserve to live and openly supported the Taliban. He said of these comments: “I am proud of having survived a dark period in my life and proud of the life I live now.” When exactly did this dark period end?

In a story a few days ago, Platner’s wife told campaign staffers that Platner had sent sexually explicit messages to several women as recently as last year and used the questionable messaging app Kik. Is this part of the dark period?

Now a New York Times report reveals more about Platner’s personality, and none of it is good. The story itself is a very soft touch; Be careful not to say anything too bad about the presumptive Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate from Maine. But the fact that the liberal outlet decided to run the story is proof that there’s something there.

DEMOCRATS ARE ‘SELLING THEIR SOUL’ TO EMBRACE PLATNER Maine voters face rude awakening: GOP lawmaker

The Times interviewed several women, including Lyndsey Fifield, who dated Platner from 2013 to 2015. Fifield is specifically described as “a Virginia conservative who has worked for right-leaning groups and Republican campaigns,” as if that context meant his claims could be dismissed. They shouldn’t be.

Fifield says he knew Platner’s tattoo was of Nazi origin, and in fact, his unit chose it specifically for that reason. “Ms. Fifield said she and other members of her unit chose the tattoo because ‘they looked like a death unit, they were killers’ and saw a parallel between their unit and the Nazi Schutzstaffel, or SS, unit that used the skull and crossbones image. ‘They literally, deliberately chose it because it was relevant to their military unit,’ she said.”

This is in stark contrast to the story Platner has been trying to tell since October 2021; The month he finally got the tattoo removed, he got a great looking tattoo while on leave. Fifield told friends about his Nazi tattoo in August. How could he have known this before? The truth is, he knew it was a Nazi tattoo all along, and the Democrats are still standing by him.

GRAHAM PLATNER DENIES NEW REPORT ALLEGING ABUSE IS ‘TOTALLY NOT TRUE’

Fifield also claims that Platner was often rude to him. She is careful not to say he hit her, “But she said he regularly grabbed her by the shoulders – sometimes hard enough to leave marks – and once, when she wanted to stay in the car after an argument, he pulled her out of a taxi by her wrist. She recalled that during an argument, he twisted her arm behind her back, pushed her into a bedroom and held the door closed from the other side so she couldn’t get out, and told her to stay there until she ‘calmed down’. Ms Fifield said she eventually fell asleep and left the next morning.”

The New York Times calls this “disturbing behavior,” but in most other contexts it rightly describes it as abuse.

In response to the accusations, “Mr. Platner said that during what he described as ‘a very dark period of my life,’ he ‘medicated himself with alcohol too often and was far from a perfect boyfriend.'”

Perhaps it would be easier for Platner to point to a period in his life that was not “dark.”

The day before the Times story was published, Platner met with Democratic senators and assured them that no other negative stories had been told about him. The Wall Street Journal reported: “Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, who attended the meeting, also followed up and said there was a big difference between marital troubles and allegations of sexual assault. Platner acknowledged and denied any credible allegations of assault.”

It’s a shame that the Nazi tattoo and everything else wasn’t enough to get Warren to withdraw her support, but it’s interesting that she made such a specific inquiry about sexual assault. Platner’s response to the “credible” allegations makes it seem as if he knew other stories were on the way.

It’s only early June and many damning allegations and details about Platner have already surfaced. The primary election has not yet taken place. How much more will Democrats concede in the service of trying to defeat deeply moderate Republican Susan Collins? Can they be sure that the New York Times story is the last one, even though they are sure there will be no more? Or is there nothing they can’t accept once they decide to accept a candidate with a Nazi tattoo who belittles rape victims and mocks soldiers during war?
