NFL news: Broncos star Jonathon Cooper arrested on domestic violence charges

Denver Broncos star Jonathon Cooper and his girlfriend were arrested on domestic violence charges Friday.

Both Cooper and his girlfriend were held on suspicion of two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief, according to Douglas County jail records.

An argument broke out between the two due to fraud allegations. to TMZ.

The two, who had been seeing each other occasionally for years, were hanging out at Cooper’s house when Cooper confronted him about his alleged infidelity. According to TMZ, the arrest affidavit said the woman grabbed Cooper’s phone, threw it against the wall, then regained control of the device and ran through it.

Cooper and the woman then struggled to get the phone, and Cooper got it back after a physical struggle. He then demanded that the woman leave his home or else he allegedly told her he would break her cell phone, according to the probable cause affidavit, according to TMZ.

According to the statement, when the woman did not leave, he bit the screen of the iPhone and broke it.

Cooper’s arraignment was held at 9:45 a.m. in a Douglas County courtroom, and the next hearing is scheduled for Monday, when Cooper is expected to enter a plea. to 9NEWS.

Following the hearing, Cooper was released on personal recognizance, 9NEWS reports.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Broncos and Cooper’s agency for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Cooper, 28, has been with the Broncos since being selected in the seventh round of the NFL Draft out of Ohio State and spent five seasons of his career in Denver.

In 17 games last season, Cooper recorded 50 tackles and eight sacks and was a key member of the Broncos’ strong defense. During his career, Cooper played 81 games, recording 266 tackles and 31.5 tackles.

The Broncos signed him to a four-year, $60 million contract extension in November 2024.
