Bangladesh election results 2026: A fierce political showdown took place in Bangladesh as the BNP led by Tarique Rahman achieved a landslide victory by defeating Jamaat-e-Islami.
BNP is preparing to form the new government by gaining a clear absolute majority in the parliament.

Bangladesh election results 2026
The Bangladesh Election Commission has announced the official results of 297 constituencies of the 13th National Parliament elections, ANI reported, citing Prothom Alo.
Announcements for Chittagong-2 and Chittagong-4 constituencies have been postponed and will be made at a later stage, while the results of another constituency were postponed earlier.
EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed gave these details in his closing speech outlining the status of declared and pending seats at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon on Friday.
Who won how many seats?
The results won by both parties out of 297 seats announced are as follows:
– The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies received 212 votes.
– According to Prothom Alo, the breakdown by party shows: BNP won 209 seats as an independent.
– The 11-party electoral alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat Islami won 77 seats.
– Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seatsJatiya Nagorik Party had six seats, Bangladesh Khelafat Assembly two, Khelafat Assembly one, Bangladesh Jatiya Party-BJP one, Ghana Sanghati Andolon one and Ghana Adhikar Paris one.
– Islamic Andolan Bangladesh got one seat, while independent candidates got seven seats.
Voter turnout in this election was 60.26 percentAccording to Prothom Alo, 48 million 74 thousand 429 “yes” votes and 22 million 25 thousand 627 “no” votes were cast.
What caused this major political change?
Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League’s ban from political activities and non-participation in the polls has led to a major shift in the political dynamics of the country after nearly two decades.
Prothom Alo also stated that BNP’s strong performance reflects the significant shift following the exclusion of the Awami League and voters’ reaction to rivalry between major powers.
