Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Monday (November 17) and recommended dissolution of the state assembly. The decision was approved at the last cabinet meeting of the outgoing government, which lasted about 10 minutes.
New NDA Government Will Be Established
Nitish Kumar’s resignation paved the way for the formation of a new NDA government following the coalition’s landslide victory in the recently concluded assembly elections. According to official sources, in the last cabinet meeting of the outgoing NDA government, Nitish Kumar was given the authority to recommend dissolution of the assembly. The decision was accepted unanimously. According to various media reports, JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar will be sworn in as chief minister for the 10th time on Thursday, November 20. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the ceremony and at least one deputy prime minister is expected to be elected.
Governor Notified Cabinet Decision
Immediately after the cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister met with Governor Khan and informed him of the cabinet’s decision. Nitish Kumar will formally submit his resignation as head of the outgoing government on November 19, sources said.
NDA Secures Strong Majority
In the last elections, the NDA won more than 200 seats in the 243-member assembly. BJP was the largest party with 89 seats, followed by JD(U) with 85 seats.
