The White House is targeting MS NOW reporter Ken Dilanian for his initial response to Wednesday’s shooting of National Guard troops in Washington, D.C.
Dilanian appeared on the network’s breaking news and was asked about the environment in D.C. since President Donald Trump deployed the National Guard earlier this year. He responded by noting how the National Guard presence had been normalized and was no longer seen as controversial after D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser agreed to the deployment.
He then turned to the nationwide political climate.
“Of course, you know, there’s a lot of controversy going on right now in the United States regarding ICE wearing uniforms and wearing masks,” Dilanian told MS NOW’s Katy Tur. “And there are people walking around in uniforms in an American city – you don’t know. There are some Americans who might object to that. And it looks like this shooting happened.”

Tur and Dilanian also questioned the legality of the National Guard deployment in D.C., citing a federal judge’s ruling that it was illegal, which the Trump administration has challenged.
The White House’s rapid response team reacted harshly to Dilanian’s comments on social media.
“@KDilanianMSNOW, two heroes were just shot while defending our nation’s capital — and that’s your conclusion?” The White House wrote about X.
“Democrats have relentlessly demonized these Patriots, calling them ‘illegals’ and even suggesting THEY might start shooting Americans. Get help. You are beyond sick,” the White House added.

FROM MSNBC TO MSNBC NOW: WHAT IS BEHIND THE BRANDING OF THE NETWORK?
Other reviewers criticized the MS NOW reporter.
“MS NOW will have to rebrand. This is truly disgusting,” Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet said.
Former ESPN reporter Ed Werder asked, “How about charging the killer?” he suggested.
“Ken Dilanian is a disgusting individual,” Red State writer Bonchie said.
A spokesperson for MS NOW declined to comment.
