Iran tempts Trump’s fury as it approves new Strait of Hormuz plan set to rake in billions | World | News
The Security Committee of the Iranian Parliament approved a plan to impose a toll on the Strait of Hormuz, just hours after Donald Trump posed a new threat to the country. On Monday, a member of the Homeland Security Commission announced the plan had been approved.
Fars news agency, identified as close to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), reported that the plan includes eight important points. Other provisions include “safety of naval vessels”, environmental issues and a ban on passage of US and Israeli ships.
The plan also includes the implementation of a toll system and Iran’s dominant role in the region.
The plan came just days after the Iranian official laid out a list of demands for an end to the war launched by the United States and Israel on February 28.
Among the demands was the recognition, for the first time, of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, an important waterway that allows the passage of approximately 20% of the world’s oil supply and a significant portion of liquefied natural gas.
If Iran can implement its plan, a pricing system could potentially be a source of billions of dollars in annual revenue and also be a powerful pressure point on the global economy.
The new plan is likely to anger the US President, who today issued a new threat to Iran.
Taking to Truth Social, he wrote: “The United States is in serious talks with a NEW AND MORE REASONABLE REGIME to end our Military Operations in Iran. Great progress has been made, but if for some reason an agreement cannot be reached soon, as it probably will be, and if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately ‘Open for Business’, we will end our pleasant ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely destroying all Power Generation Facilities, Oil Rigs and Oil Rigs in Iran. Yet knowingly Kharg Island (and probably all the desalination plants!) which we ‘touched’.
“This will be revenge for the many of our soldiers and others that Iran slaughtered and killed during the former Regime’s 47-year ‘Reign of Terror’.”
Following the start of the war, Iran blocked the passage of most Western ships through the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of a global energy crisis.
