But perhaps one face that stands out more than anyone else is that of Ghislane Maxwell, the main accomplice in Epstein’s crimes. So who is Ghislane Maxwell and where is she now?

Ghislaine Maxwell, born to British publishing magnate Robert Maxwell, is a former socialite often considered to be Epstein’s closest friend. He attended private schools in Oxford and Somerset before joining Balliol College at the University of Oxford, where he took a degree in modern history and languages in 1985. In 1991, Maxwell moved to New York City, United States, to serve as her father’s representative at the New York Daily News. She soon became a well-known socialite in the US city.

Maxwell met Jeffrey Epstein in the early 1990s, and the two were romantically involved for a time during that decade. Starting in 2015, Maxwell began facing lawsuits accusing him of sex trafficking underage girls through deception and false promises. In mid-2020, almost a year after Epstein died by alleged suicide in his New York jail cell, Maxwell was arrested at her home in New Hampshire, US. In late 2021, Maxwell was convicted of five charges related to sex trafficking of underage girls and was sentenced to 20 years in prison the following year.
