Who is Rahul Mamkootathil, Kerala MLA booked in rape case, facing another sexual assault allegation

The controversy over Mamkooathil began in August this year, when multiple complaints of misconduct emerged. Following these allegations, Congress suspended him from the party.
Kerala MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who has been suspended from the Congress party, is facing more trouble after another woman accused him of sexual assault. Mamkootathil’s name has already appeared in two rape cases and now a woman leader from the Congress has come forward with a new allegation.
Palakkad MLA Mamkootathil was recently arrested in a rape case in which he was accused of forcing a woman to terminate her pregnancy. He is accused of non-bailable offenses and has been missing ever since. Police stepped up their efforts to find him.
On Tuesday, another woman filed a complaint with the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and police, alleging that he assaulted her in 2023.
The controversy over Mamkooathil began in August this year, when multiple complaints of misconduct emerged. Following these allegations, Congress suspended him from the party.
The latest complaint was filed a day before a court in Thiruvananthapuram was scheduled to hear Mamkootathil’s pre-arrest bail plea.
According to the complainant, the 23-year-old woman met Mamkooathil on social media. He said that while he was in Bengaluru, he took her to a family out of town on the pretext of a marriage meeting. She claimed that despite her resistance, he attacked her and that her body was cut and injured as a result of the incident. She also said that he later told her that he had no plans to marry and that his political career would not allow it.
With local elections approaching in Kerala on December 9 and 11, the Congress moved quickly to address the new allegation and limit the political fallout of the ongoing scandal.
