Set in 1996 in Haldwani, UP, Jaspreet aka Jassi (Harshh Vardhan), a die-hard romantic, goes on a quest to find the girl of his dreams. He soon meets Jasmeet (Rehmat Rattan), also known as Jassi. Before he can win Jasmeet’s heart, he must win the trust of his brother Jaswinder (Sikandar Kher), also known as Jassi. Jaspreet creates turmoil even in the peaceful married life of hopelessly romantic Sehgal (Ranvir Shorey) and Sweeti (Grusha Kapoor). How Jaspreet wins over Jasmeet while overcoming the confusion and obstacles caused by Sehgal, Jaswinder and others forms the basis of Jassi marrying Jassi.
Nowadays, a movie shot with big budgets or with a star cast featuring the biggest names attracts attention. However, we have seen time and time again that such films often disappoint the audience when they come to watch them with high expectations. Jassi Weds Jassi proves to be a remarkable film that doesn’t have the best production values, is made on a modest budget, not with the biggest names in showbiz, but you are pleasantly surprised at the end.
Jassi Marries Jassi proves once again that comedy does not need big budgets but a noble attempt to make people laugh and takes us back to those glorious years when we enjoyed movies like Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Dekhte Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge, Khichdi The Movie. What all these films, including JWJ, have in common is a new concept made on a limited scope. The best way to enjoy this movie is to not have any expectations.

Talking about the screenings, Jassi is getting married Jassi is on the shoulders of experienced actors. Ranvir Shorey is not the main lead but he provides maximum laughter and giggles throughout the movie. His character is facing a mid-life crisis and his lackluster romantic life with Sweeti will definitely keep you smiling throughout the movie. His chemistry with Kartar (Manu Rishi) is also one of the highlights of the film. Sikandar Kher, an actor whose funny bones have not been sufficiently examined by the producer, also surprises. Tough Punjabi gunda Jaswinder is a serious character but what makes him funny are the situations he finds himself in. Harshh Vardhan Singh Deo entertains but unfortunately is outmaneuvered by the Hiladis. The same goes for debutant Rehmat Rattan. It’s nice, but there isn’t much room for action in the second half. Sudesh Lehri and Grusha Kapoor are surprisingly underused.
Now let’s discuss the shortcomings. The first half of the movie is weak. Almost no joke will make you laugh out loud. Dialogue, a great strength in comedies, seems to be the biggest flaw here, especially in the front interlude. After the interval, the movie improves, the situations become funnier and the jokes are delivered in the right way. The music is another disadvantage of the movie. Literally no song stays in your mind because it can be forgotten. The movie seems limp and uninteresting after the first 20 minutes. The writing should have been sharper. Fortunately, the second half saves the movie.
Overall, Jassi Weds Jassi is a well-established, clean family entertainer that gives you simple 90s nostalgia and leaves you with a pleasant smile. Jassi Weds Jassi also gives hope that there are still a few filmmakers who believe in delivering genuine comedy without pretension.
