Why a road named after Donald Trump in India?

Following CM Revanth Reddy’s suggestion, the opposition BJP also took the offensive.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has suggested naming the road leading to the US Consulate in Hyderabad as ‘Donald Trump Boulevard’. But the question is: What is the reason behind CM Reddy’s admiration for Trump? Has India run out of great personalities to name a road in their state after the US president?

Following Reddy’s offer, many questions are being asked on social media. The questions are: Why is a road in India named after Trump, who imposed a 50% tariff on India? Why is a road named after Trump, who has strengthened India’s ties with its arch-enemy Pakistan? Why would you seek investment using Trump’s name when he calls India a ‘dead economy’?

Following Reddy’s suggestion, the opposition BJP also went on the attack. BJP MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar says that if a name change is necessary, Hyderabad should first be renamed as Bhagyanagar. He argues that if a name change is to be made, it should be a name with historical significance. This will be the first time a road outside the United States has been named after Trump. But the question arises: Why in Hyderabad? In a country with no shortage of great leaders, why is there a need to name a road after Trump?

Meanwhile, Trump Media and Technology Group Corp Director Eric Swider said on Monday that the companies he represents will invest Rs 1 lakh crore in the “Bharat Future City” to be established near Hyderabad in Telangana over the next 10 years. Speaking at the opening session of the Telangana Rising Global Summit, Swider said that the world’s technology capitalists come from India and it would be blindness not to see that the country is on the rise.
