Why does this data centre need ASIO’s top ‘Zone 3’ protection?

Last week I went to visit “M3”, a 225 megawatt data center. sprinkled as “A new digital gateway for Victoria”. It’s one of Australia’s largest data centers and coincidentally very close to me.

I wanted to hear its roar and see its battlements with my own eyes, 41,000m² technical field said to be “purpose-built for hyperscale growth and high-density computing.” I’ve read a lot about data centers, but I’ve learned a few things by being there myself.
