ECI orders immediate suspension of seven AEROs in West Bengal, directs disciplinary action over alleged misconduct

The ECI had directed the CS to suspend Satyajit Das, Joint BDO and Joydeep Kundu, both the eros of 139-Canning Purbo Assembly Constituency, FEO, “with immediate effect for serious misconduct, dereliction of duty and abuse of statutory powers in connection with SIR”.
The Commission instructed: “A disciplinary investigation will be initiated immediately against Das and Kundu by the relevant cadre control authority without any delay and the Commission will be informed about this.”
Similarly, Debashis Biswas, Jt BDO and AERO 229-DEBRA Assembly Constituency in Paschim Medinipur district, Murshidabad Sk. Murshid Alam, ADA, Suti Block and AERO for 57-Suti Assembly Constituency in Murshidabad. The other two are Revenue Officer, Farakka and AERO Nitish Das for 55-Farakka Assembly Constituency in Murshidabad and Dalia Ray Choudhury, Women Development Officer, Maynaguri Development Block, 16-Maynaguri Assembly Constituency in Jalpaiguri District.
A similar suspension and disciplinary action has been initiated by the ECI against all seven AEROs with immediate effect. These individuals were asked to be “subject to suspension with immediate effect for serious misconduct, dereliction of duty and abuse of legal powers in connection with SIR.”
ECI said that the Commission has directed that disciplinary proceedings against them should be initiated immediately by the cadre control authority without any delay and the Commission should be informed about it.

Additionally, in a separate letter to the CEO-West Bengal, ECI, citing the Supreme Court’s Order dated 9.02.2026, the ECi said, “taking cognizance of the issue of alleged burning of objection records, the Commission has directed that all objections in Form 7s received so far at the offices of the CEOs and DEOs shall be immediately sent to the EROS/AEROs for destruction and not later than February 16.”
The ECI stated that EROS and eros have been directed to dispose of all such objections in Form 7s from their offices or the offices of the CEOs and DEOs in accordance with the legal scheme and as per the SC Order dated February 9. It was stated that all Claims and Objections will be eliminated.
