Widdup sends strong team south before chasing bigger riches at Randwick

Hawkesbury trainer Brad Widdup is preparing for what could be a lucrative week for the stable by sending three leading chances to Tuesday’s Kembla Grange meeting.

Widdup rode Jedibeel to finish fourth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield on Saturday and will follow up with another Group 1 at Randwick this week where Savvy Hallie lines up in the surround Stakes.

But first he will focus on Kembla Grange and start the day by having Tulou line up with Andrew Adkins in the Time To Reign @ Kingstar Farm Midway Maiden Handicap (1500m).

Tulou races in the same colors as Savvy Hallie and joins the Kembla Grange event, finishing ninth behind the highly acclaimed Journeyman at Warwick Farm.

“Tulou is a filly from Tagaloa who ran in the Pierro Plate this time last year and then ran a few times in July and August,” Widdup said.

“We gave him two trials before moving on and he got on a useful field at Warwick Farm. He finished this run well and Tuesday’s race looks more suitable.”

Widdup will ride Sneaky Choice in the April O’Shea-People’s Champion Grade 1 Handicap (1500m) with Tommy Berry riding the mare from barrier one.

“He’s been back from a spell twice now and performed well in each one,” Widdup said.

“He was beaten by two lengths on the restart at the Beaumont track at Newcastle and was one length clear of the winner at Kembla on his last start.
