Widnes fire LIVE: Huge blaze erupts as ‘entire sky turns black’ | UK | News

A huge fire broke out in Widnes and an eyewitness described how “the whole sky over Liverpool went dark” and “numerous explosions” occurred. More than 700 tonnes of waste cardboard caught fire at a recycling facility on Everite Road.

Emergency services rushed to the scene with fire engines from Widnes, Runcorn, Penketh, Congleton, Warrington, Frodsham and Northwich, as well as a fire engine on weekdays. An eyewitness told Liverpool ECHO: “The whole sky over Liverpool is turning black and there are multiple explosions going on now. It’s a big fire. I’m looking at Widnes. The fire is huge. It started about 25 minutes ago. It’s a big warehouse.”
