Dhurandhar’s character designer reveals the stories behind the look

Talking about Ranveer’s look, Preetisheel shared details of the time and effort spent on creating his characters. “Preparation would have taken roughly 1.5 hours. Maybe two hours if there had been blood work with cuts and bruises. But time was always of the essence. Over the years, in the film, his character grows a beard and doesn’t cut his hair, so I used a lot of extensions and wigs for both the beard and the hair because we were going back and forth between looks while shooting,” he told Hollywood Reporter India.

Elaborating further on the craft, explaining how he went about transforming Singh, he said: “Dhurandhar expands over a period of time, and I wanted to follow that journey, from taking on the ‘spy skin’, where he doesn’t have access to money, doesn’t even have a home to stay, where he’s on the streets, to getting into the gang. I wanted to show his initial rugged naiveté, where he doesn’t clean himself every day, his hair is messy, frayed, tied in a braid, sometimes in a ponytail.”

Preetisheel then talked about how she worked on Akshaye Khanna’s look and reminded that she had worked with him before. “I did his look in Chhaava as well and transformed him into Aurangzeb. Of course, he has a lot of experience in working with wigs. I wanted to avoid the way he was shown before and let his charisma come to the fore.”

He also revealed that he got emotional seeing Akshaye’s Rehman Dakait look and the look reminded him of his father.

“There’s a sweetness to her character, just her presence attracts attention. She doesn’t need to say much. I gave her soft waves and showed her receding hairline. It’s not a full head of hair. I remember when I did the trial, she was looking at herself in the mirror and said she reminded me of her late father Vinod Khanna.”
