Russia nuclear threat as Putin develops terrifying new submarine | World | News

Russia has confirmed that it is developing a fifth-generation nuclear ballistic missile submarine. Nikolai Patrushev, chairman of the country’s Navy Board and vice president, said that engineers are designing a new generation ship and that the project is generally in the early development stage. Patrushev added that the program includes autonomous underwater vehicles and an unknown quantity of state-of-the-art underwater weapons that “have no global analogues.”

The new ships will replace the current generation Borei-class ships, which replaced the older Delta-class submarines and were praised for their improved stealth, powerful pump-jet propulsion and 16 Bulava missiles.

It was previously reported by Rubin Design Bureau that the new submarine design features an angled hull carrying 12 missile tubes and Surrogat-V unmanned anti-submarine warfare ships.

The project aims to ensure that Russia’s fleet maintains its reputation as a world leader alongside US and Chinese submarines. Military Watch Magazine reported.

This follows the launch in November of a different submarine (Khabarovsk) based on the Borei-A class design.

Earlier this month, a former senior naval officer claimed the UK no longer had the capacity to run a capable nuclear submarine programme.

Rear Admiral Philip Mathias has spoken out about the “devastating” failures he believes have pushed the UK’s nuclear deterrent to the brink.

he said TelegramHe said: “Britain is no longer in a position to manage its nuclear submarine programme.”

“Dreadnought is late, Astute-class submarine delivery is delayed, there is a large backlog of Astute-class maintenance and redeployment that continues to worsen, and SSN-Aukus is a submarine that will not be able to deliver what the UK or Australia need in terms of capability or timescale.”

He added: “Performance on all aspects of the program continues to deteriorate across all dimensions. This is unprecedented in the nuclear submarine era.”

US President Donald Trump On October 27, he said Putin should end the war in Ukraine rather than test the Burevestnik nuclear-powered missile.

He also stated that the United States has a nuclear submarine stationed close to Russia. [not] “I have to go 8,000 miles.”

This was in reference to the Kremlin’s claim that the Burevestnik missile flew 14,000 kilometers (8,700 miles). The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) wrote:.

Russia reportedly provided North Korea with a reactor for a nuclear-powered submarine in September, possibly bringing the state several years closer to operating its own nuclear-capable ship.

Ukraine’s SBU security service reported that on December 23, the country shot down a Russian Il-38N maritime patrol aircraft at Yeysk Air Base with a drone.

This was before the December 15 attack on the Kilo-class submarine at Novorossiysk Naval Base.

“The 13th Main Directorate of the Military Counterintelligence Department of the SBU reported that the Il-38N was the only Russian asset in the region capable of detecting the Ukrainian Sea Baby drones that hit the Kilo-class submarine,” ISW reported.
