Wimbledon 2026: Arthur Fery’s journey to Alexander Zverev semi-final on Centre Court

By the age of 10, Fery’s technical ability had already established him as one of the most talented teenagers in the country.

He caught the attention of Sutton Tennis Academy coach Craig Veal and he began training with him, along with former French ATP player Benoit Foucher.

The pair decided that Fery would improve more playing against adults in the UK rather than traveling internationally to compete with his peers.

“[We decided to] Instead of putting pressure on him to be ranked internationally, let him develop his game and his passion,” Veal said. he told iPaper., external

“When he was 16, he moved up the junior ranks very, very quickly compared to a lot of his peers because he was ready to play.”

When Fery began playing internationally, he won World Tennis Junior singles and doubles titles and reached 12 in the world rankings.

He failed to advance past the third round in men’s singles at the Slams, but reached the semi-finals in doubles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

A smooth transition to the professional ranks could not be guaranteed; so he had an alternative plan.
