Wimbledon 2026: Serena Williams to make surprise singles comeback after taking wildcard

Williams won her first Wimbledon singles title in 2002 – beating sister Venus in the final – and repeated the feat a year later.
He won again in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2016; Her seventh victory meant she equaled Steffi Graf’s Open era record of 22 major singles titles.
After taking maternity leave in 2017, she reached the final in her two appearances at Wimbledon but lost in straight sets to Angelique Kerber and Halep.
Her 2021 season ended after just six games as she retired with an injury to Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and there were doubts she would return.
When she received a wild card in 2022, she was two points away from victory against Harmony Tan but fell behind in the final set tiebreak.
Asked later if this would be her last match at Wimbledon, Williams said: “That’s a question I can’t answer. Who knows? Who knows where I’ll show up?”
Williams has won 14 titles at Wimbledon, including six in women’s doubles and one in mixed doubles.
He also won gold medals in singles and doubles on the same courts at the 2012 London Olympics.
Williams won 107 of her 123 singles matches on grass courts, which is her best record with an 87% win rate.
