Winter Paralympics 2026: Neil Simpson and guide Rob Poth win alpine combined silver

Neil Simpson won Great Britain’s first medal with a silver in alpine skiing at the Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympics.

It was the third Paralympic medal overall for the visually impaired skier, who has twice placed fourth at these Games with guide Rob Poth.

In alpine skiing, skiers complete both the super-G and slalom runs, and their factored times are combined to determine the final ranking.

Simpson and Poth were in fourth place after the morning’s super-G race, 0.57 seconds behind third place.

However, they moved up two places in the slalom when Canadian Kalle Ericsson and her guide Sierra Smith dropped out of contention.

Italian Giacomo Bertagnolli and guide Andrea Ravelli won the gold medal by finishing 0.65 seconds ahead of Simpson and Poth, while Austrians Johannes Aigner and Nico Haberl won the bronze medal.
