Winter weather advisory expanded into parts of metro Atlanta

Some regions of Georgia are preparing for the first snowfall of the year.

Southern parts of metro Atlanta are at the northern end of the winter weather advisory.

This is in effect from 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday for Henry, Newton, Morgan, Greene, Spalding, Meriwether, Pike, Lamar, Butts, Upson, Jasper and Putnam counties. Up to an inch of snow is possible.

Slippery roads can occur, especially on bridges and overpasses and in areas where persistent moisture freezes. If you must travel on Sunday, be careful.

Storms could reach as far north as Interstate 85. Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Ashley Kramlich He says little or no accumulation is expected in metro Atlanta.

A winter storm warning has been added for Central Georgia, near Macon and Dublin, where 1 to 3 inches are possible.

This will be a fast-moving system and precipitation will end by early Sunday afternoon.

Looking ahead, Sunday and Monday will be sunny but cold and brisk.
