WNBA commissioner denies comments about Caitlin Clark earnings

WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert addressed a conversation announced by Napheesa Collier, who claims to have said Engelbert “[Caitlin Clark] He must be grateful, he won $ 16 million from the court because he wouldn’t do anything without WNBA’s platform. “
Engelbert said he did not make these comments at a press conference on Friday.
Engelbert, “Frankly, I did not make these comments. Caitlin was a transformationist player in this league. He was a great representative of the game. Tens of millions of new fans brought the game.” He said.

Collier also said, “The players should be on their knees, thank you for the media rights agreement I have received”.
Engelbert also discussed these alleged interpretations, claiming that there were many “inaccuracies” reported in the media, but did not explicitly reject these comments, as in the alleged Clark interpretations.
“There are too many innacuracions through social media and all these reports.” He said. “A lot of reporting, too much innate about what I said, what I said.”

Engelbert said, “I am the courage.
Nevertheless, Engelbert agreed to do better if the players do not feel “appreciated”.
Before the 1st game of the WNBA Finals on Friday night, Engelbert said, “I was discouraged that some players felt the league and I personally heard that I didn’t care or listen to them.” He said.
“If the players in ‘W’ do not feel appreciation and value from the league, we have to do better and I have to do better.”
WNBA and its players union WNBPA is negotiating for a new collective bargaining agreement.

The players Association and WNBA accepted an eight -year agreement in 2020, but last year WNBPA voted to commission the agreement early.
The duration of the current agreement will end on 31 October.
