Wolverhampton school pupils sent home as body found | UK | News

A Black Country school was closed on Monday after a man’s body was found in its grounds. Emergency services, including police officers and paramedics, rushed to Smestow Academy in Wolverhampton at around 10.40am today after being alerted to the discovery.

Police said the man was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene, and investigations are ongoing to confirm his identity and the circumstances surrounding his death. A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We are currently at Smestow Academy following the discovery of a body in the area.

“He was called to the emergency room at around 10.40am today and unfortunately the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigations are ongoing to confirm the man’s identity and the circumstances surrounding his death. The school is closed to students while investigations are ongoing.”

West Midlands Police, quoting log 1452 of January 19, urged anyone with information to contact police via Live Chat or 101.

West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics also attended the scene and confirmed they were called to the school site at around 10.40am on January 19.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to a medical emergency at an area in Windmill Crescent, Castlecroft, Wolverhampton, at 10.41am today.

“Two ambulances and a paramedic responded to the scene where unfortunately one person was confirmed dead.”

The school confirmed it would remain closed today via a statement on its website, which said the incident was “unrelated”.

The announcement read: “The school is closing as of 1pm today due to an unrelated police incident.”
