Wolves: Kieran Trippier verbally agrees to move to Molineux after Newcastle exit

wolves They are close to signing former England international Kieran Trippier.

The 35-year-old verbally agreed to a free transfer to Molineux after leaving Newcastle.

Rob Edwards is expected to sign a two-year deal with an option for a further 12 months, becoming his first signing of the summer.

Trippier leaves Newcastle at the end of his contract this summer after four-and-a-half years at St James’ Park, making 160 appearances and scoring four goals.

He helped the Magpies win the Carabao Cup in 2025, their first silverware since 1955.

Right-back Trippier won La Liga with Atletico Madrid in 2020-21 and was Champions League runner-up with Tottenham in 2019.

He won 54 caps for England, scoring in the 2018 World Cup semi-final and starting the Euro 2020 final, and will retire from international duty in 2024.

Wolves are bouncing back after finishing bottom of the Premier League and have targeted more experience, prioritizing homegrown signings.

The club’s hierarchy are aware that they do not have players with sufficient experience or understanding of the club culture.

Having won just three top-flight games to end their eight-year stay in the league, Wolves have no room for non-homegrown players in their squad before more depart.

Goalkeeper Jose Sa and striker Hwang Hee-chan are expected to leave, along with midfielder Ladislav Krejci, but Mateus Mane will remain at Molineux after his breakthrough season.
