A woman has been arrested following a fatal fire in Wolverhampton last night (Friday 24 April) in which two boys died.
West Midlands Police said the woman arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the deaths of two children remained in custody on Saturday afternoon.
Investigators are working with the fire department to determine the circumstances of the fire that broke out on Mason Street around 8:30 p.m. Officers are also continuing and reviewing door-to-door CCTV in the area.
Police also stated that the cordon at the scene will likely remain in place for some time. Two children, aged one and three, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their families are currently being supported by specialist police.
Two other children and a woman had already left the house before emergency services arrived. They were checked by ambulance personnel but did not require hospital treatment.

“We understand the shock and distress this horrific incident will cause many people and we are working rapidly to establish exactly what happened.
“Officers arrested a woman on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of two children.
“Whilst we would ask people not to speculate about this or the wider incident, we would urge anyone who may be able to assist our investigations and who has not yet spoken to us to get in touch.”
