Woman dies after allegedly falling into well in Kannur

A 42-year-old woman died after allegedly falling into a well with her mother at their home in Chavanapuzha in Kannur on Thursday, July 2.

The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Karayapath Chitrarekha. Her mother Lakshmi survived the incident and is undergoing treatment at Government Medical College Hospital, Pariyaram.

According to officials, local residents with the help of Fire and Rescue Services personnel pulled the two women out of the well and took them to Taliparamba Taluk Hospital. Chitrarekha was pronounced dead on arrival.

Taliparamba police registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Based on preliminary investigation, police suspect that Chitrarekha might have jumped into the well due to mental health issues. The investigation continues.
