Woman hit by boy, 10, on e-bike in horror collision – three operations needed | UK | News

CCTV footage captured the shocking moment a woman was struck by a 10-year-old boy riding an e-bike in a collision that left him requiring three separate operations.

He suffered a broken femur, broken collarbone and two spinal fractures, and spent a total of 36 days in the hospital during three surgeries.

Heartbreaking footage released by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) clearly shows the moment Ms Ouartsi fell to the ground.

Ms Ouartsi is seen walking alongside her partner Dave Mathias when the bike hits him. The young rider tumbles off the bike as it stumbles backwards before hitting the pavement.

The driver initially remained at the scene but was later taken away by his mother, Mr Mathias told The Times.

Police launched an investigation but ultimately no charges were brought. Ms Ouartsi recalled the horrific ordeal, explaining that the couple had had a “wonderful lunch” and visited an exhibition shortly before the high-speed bike hit her without warning.

“I heard my spine and body cracking and thought I was gone; I just didn’t know what happened,” she told the BBC.

“An ambulance arrived and I was treated urgently by paramedics who were unable to recognize my injuries.

“They had to operate and put me back together and help me walk.”

Following the incident, Ms Ouartsi had no choice but to wear a back brace, as medical experts feared her spine would otherwise collapse.

In the United Kingdom, where between 1 and 1.5 million e-bikes are currently in use, according to an Australian news website, doctors are reporting a sharp increase in e-bike-related injuries.

Ms Ouartsi’s partner explained that he felt “desperate and angry” that the couple had not received compensation or criminal justice.
