Woman killed after ‘driving in wrong direction on major UK motorway’ | UK | News

A woman in her 50s has tragically died following a fatal crash on the M62 in Rochdale. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers were called at around 11pm on Saturday, July 11, to reports of an incident in which a gray Nissan Juke collided with a gray BMW X5 between junctions 21 and 22 of the M62.

Authorities said: “The Nissan is believed to have been traveling the wrong way on the eastbound carriageway before the collision.” As a result of the collision, the female driver of the Nissan, who was in her 50s, was “seriously injured” and unfortunately died at the scene. The driver and passengers in the BMV, who were slightly injured, were treated.

No arrests have been made but police are urging anyone with information or footage of the collision to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact GMP on 0161 856 4741 quoting log 4349 of 11/07/2026.

GMP said: “Officers from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for information following a fatal collision on the M62 in Rochdale.

“At around 11pm yesterday (11.07.26) we were called to reports of an incident where a gray Nissan Juke had collided with a gray BMW X5 between junctions 21 and 22 of the M62.

“The Nissan is believed to have been traveling the wrong way on the eastbound road before the collision.

“The female driver of the Nissan, who was in her 50s, was seriously injured after the collision and unfortunately died at the scene. The slightly injured BMW driver and his passengers were treated.

“No arrests have been made in connection with this incident at this time. The Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

“They would like to speak to anyone who had dashcam or CCTV in the area around the time the incident occurred.”
